Police Inspector Attached to Former Rivers LGA Chairman Shoots Self Dead in Port Harcourt
A police inspector identified as Maxwell Zabu, who was attached to former Port Harcourt City Local Government Chairman Victor Ihunwo, has allegedly died by suicide at the politician’s Eagle Island residence in Port Harcourt.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday. Preliminary reports suggest that Inspector Zabu died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The case was first reported at the Eagle Island Police Post, which is under the Azikiwe Police Division in Illabouchi, Mile 2, Diobu.
Officers from the division were said to have arrived at the scene to begin initial investigations. While speaking to Channels Television, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the death is being treated as a suspected suicide. However, she added that no possibilities have been ruled out and a thorough investigation is ongoing.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for deeper inquiry.
