Police Inspector Arrested for Robbing Neighbors’ Homes in Kogi State
The Kogi State Police Command has made a shocking revelation with the arrest of Police Inspector Aminu Mohammed, accused of orchestrating robberies targeting residents near his duty station at ‘C’ Division in Lokoja, the state capital.
SP William Aya, the Public Relations Officer, confirmed this development to journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday. According to SP Aya, Inspector Aminu Mohammed’s downfall began when a notorious gang of armed robbers, known for targeting homes and stealing household items and cars, was tracked down.
“It was during the investigation into the activities of this gang that Inspector Mohammed’s involvement came to light,” SP Aya stated.
The investigation uncovered damning evidence linking Inspector Mohammed to the crime. Notably, a stolen vehicle from a recent robbery was traced to the workshop of Arome Moses, a panel beater located in Ochadamu near Anyigba. The car was in the process of having its color changed, with its license plate already swapped for one from Abuja. Inspector Mohammed attempted to corroborate his ownership claim with a backdated car dealer’s receipt, dated 2020.
“When individuals familiar with the stolen vehicle recognized it and raised an alarm, it triggered swift action by our Quick Response Unit,” SP Aya added.
Upon apprehending Arome Moses, crucial information was disclosed. One of the apprehended gang members, long sought by the police for various offenses, confessed to the robbery and implicated Inspector Mohammed as the mastermind behind the operation.
“He confessed that their assignment was to target the residence of the car’s owner, specifically to obtain the vehicle on behalf of Inspector Mohammed,” SP Aya revealed.
This revelation has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the integrity of law enforcement in the state. The Kogi State Police Command assures the public of thorough investigation and appropriate action against all involved in these criminal activities.
