Police Deploy 4,200 Personnel, Bomb Squad in Abuja Ahead of #EndBadGovernance Protest
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced the deployment of 4,200 personnel in Abuja ahead of the anticipated #EndBadGovernance protest. This deployment includes a bomb squad and other specialized units.
The announcement, made by FCT Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh, underscores the proactive steps taken by the police to manage the expected nationwide protest. The protest, organized by human rights activists and Nigerian youths, aims to voice concerns over hunger and hardship in the country.
SP Adeh stated that the police have mobilized both material and human resources throughout the nation’s capital. “The proactive deployment, which is aimed at ensuring public safety, protection of protesters, and preventing protests from being hijacked by non-state actors, is characterized by visibility policing, the deployment of explosive ordinance devices (EOD) experts and personnel at various strategic locations, raids on identified black spots, uncompleted buildings/shanties, stop and search, vehicular and foot patrol and synergy with sister security agencies,” she said.
Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh, emphasized the importance of peaceful protest, noting the police’s readiness to prevent any form of violence or lawlessness. “The CP vows to resist all forms of violent protest and lawlessness, as the police will not be stampeded into allowing the destruction of public and private properties or loss of lives,” Adeh added.
