Police Crackdown on ‘One Chance’ Syndicate in FCT, Impound 17 Vehicles

In a decisive move against the notorious ‘one chance’ criminal activities plaguing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Police Command has impounded 17 vehicles within a month.

Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Mr. Haruna Garba, disclosed this during a media briefing held on Friday in Abuja. The vehicles, lacking number plates and equipped with tinted glasses, were apprehended by the anti-one chance clearance squad from December 1st to the present date.

Garba revealed that the detained vehicles were linked to the nefarious ‘one chance’ activities, and their operators are currently undergoing interrogation to ascertain their involvement.

The Commissioner emphasized that those found culpable after the investigation would face legal charges.

Providing details, Garba stated that on December 15th, operatives from Galadima Division arrested two suspected ‘one chance’ operators, with three managing to escape. The apprehended individuals confessed to being part of a criminal syndicate causing havoc in Life-Camp, Karmo, and Gwarimpa areas.

In a separate incident on December 24th, the Utako Division arrested seven notorious ‘one chance’ syndicate members, including three males and four females. One female suspect confessed to involvement in a series of ‘one chance’ activities over the past three years, revealing that their gang was responsible for the murder of a lady.

The confession led to the identification and arrest of a Point of Sale (POS) operator used by the gang to withdraw money from their victims’ ATM cards.

Further illustrating the police’s commitment, Garba highlighted an incident on December 26th when Galadima Division received a distress call about four armed men assaulting a lady by the roadside. The police gave chase, prompting the criminals to abandon the victim and their vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered a pump-action gun, two cartridges, ATM cards, and other stolen valuables.

Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects as the FCT Police intensify measures to curb ‘one chance’ activities in the FCT.
