The FCT Police Command has confirmed the kidnap of nine persons including a 12-year-old boy during an attack on Pegi resettlement community, located in Kuje Area Council, of the FCT on Monday by kidnappers.
Confirming the incident, the Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Anjuguri Manzah said the police are on the hunt for the kidnappers.
He said, “We are making concerted efforts to rescue the persons kidnapped around Pegi community. Though details of the incident are still sketchy, the Police command pleads with members of the public to be calm while the police intensify efforts to rescue and reunite victims with members of their families.
“We also call on the public to be security conscious and provide information to the police and other relevant security agencies on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.”
According to the Chairman of Pegi Community Development Association (PECDA) Taiwo Aderibigbe, the kidnappers stormed the community at about 8:00pm on Monday night.
Aderibigbe said the kidnappers overpowered the local vigilante group guarding the community before fleeing into the bush with their victims. One person was said to be injured during the efforts to stop the kidnappers.
He disclosed that some of the kidnappers had established contact with the families of some of the kidnapped persons, demanding N10 million ransom.
