Police Confirm Abduction of Bayelsa High Court Judge
The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Justice E.J. Umokoro, a judge of the Bayelsa State High Court, who was taken by armed men in Yenagoa on Saturday evening. This follows an earlier report by *SK* on the incident as it was breaking.
Police spokesperson Musa Mohammed stated on Sunday that the judge was abducted while waiting in his car outside a fast food outlet in the Ekeki area of the state capital. According to the police, the attackers arrived in a Toyota Hilux, fired sporadically to disperse people at the car park, and then forcibly removed the judge from his vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Justice Umokoro was reportedly waiting for his daughter, who had gone into the outlet to make some purchases when the incident occurred. Mohammed added that tactical teams and drones have been deployed in a coordinated effort to track down the suspects and rescue the judge.
