Police Ban APC, NNPP Planned Rallies in Kano State
The Kano State Police Command has issued a ban on the scheduled rallies by supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) slated for Saturday.
In a press release issued on Friday, the police cautioned residents to uphold patriotism and refrain from participating in any illegal assemblies, protests, or processions. The statement emphasized the potential for such gatherings to escalate into violence within the state.
The police assured the public that comprehensive security measures had been implemented to safeguard lives and property. The statement conveyed, “Credible information available to the Command indicates that certain groups purporting to be supporters of the NNPP and APC have been leveraging various media channels to mobilize people. They are planning to take to the streets on Saturday, November 25, 2023, to protest the verdict of the Kano State Governorship Appeal Court.”
It further outlined, “The gathered intelligence suggests that the protesters aim to paralyze the state and target key political opponents, actions that could potentially lead to violence.”
Kano residents are urged to heed the police advisory and prioritize peace amid the political tensions surrounding the governorship appeal court decision. The police command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of the state.
