Police Arrest Four in Connection with Killing of Imo Youth Leader

Four suspects have been arrested by the Imo State Police Command in connection with the killing of Stanley Nwoke, the youth leader-elect of Umusi-Olokwa community in Owerri West Local Government Area. Nwoke was reportedly shot dead on Saturday evening by gunmen believed to be part of a rival faction.

According to a statement released on Sunday by police spokesperson Henry Okoye, the violence is suspected to have stemmed from a leadership tussle following a youth election held on January 3, 2025. Nwoke had emerged victorious in the election, but tensions reportedly escalated afterwards. The police say a faction allegedly led by Chinaza Nwachukwu, who is currently on the run along with other unnamed suspects, is believed to be behind the deadly attack.

In addition to the killing of Nwoke, the assailants reportedly set fire to nine houses and inflicted injuries on four of his siblings. The victims are currently receiving medical treatment, while Nwoke’s body has been deposited in the morgue.

Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma condemned the killing, describing it as a brutal act of violence. He assured the public that the police will do everything necessary to bring all perpetrators to justice and restore peace in the community. He also urged residents to share any credible information that may assist ongoing investigations.
