Police Arrest Couple for Kidnapping Activities in Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a couple, Okoye Kingsley and Chidinma Okoye, for alleged involvement in kidnapping activities in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area. The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson.
According to Ikenga, the couple was apprehended in the early hours of November 29, 2024, by a joint security team comprising the police and the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG). The operation, which was driven by technology-based intelligence, led to the recovery of mobile phones and SIM cards linked to the alleged crimes.
The suspects reportedly specialized in sending threatening messages to individuals, demanding ransom with threats of abduction or death if their demands were not met. Ikenga stated that the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to destroying some of the SIM cards they had used in their operations.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the anti-kidnapping and robbery squad for a thorough investigation. The suspects are expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
