Pirates Hijack Passenger Boat in Rivers, 13 Still Missing
A passenger boat carrying 20 travelers was hijacked by suspected sea pirates along the Bonny-Okrika waterways in Rivers State. The attack occurred on Thursday, February 6, 2025, near Isaka in Okrika Local Government Area.
The Chairman of Bonny Local Government Council, Anengi Claude-Wilcox, confirmed the incident in a statement through her media aide, Boma Waribor, on Friday. According to her, security operatives managed to rescue nine passengers, while efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining 13.
Claude-Wilcox revealed that the boat driver violated safety regulations by taking the vessel through Kilometer 10, a restricted route for commercial boats. She assured the public that security agencies and neighboring local governments are working together to resolve the situation and urged families of the victims to remain calm.
Authorities continue their search and rescue mission, intensifying efforts to ensure the safe return of the missing passengers.
