According to a press release by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, four additional suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of three Cameroonian nationals in Anambra State.

The suspects, all males, include 27-year-old Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, also known as “Ugoebenajah,” alleged Chief Priest of a shrine, along with Nwabunne Bright, 27, Chinecherem Chiama, 21, and Michael Ekwunife, 38.

The operation took place on 13 February 2026 in Nando community, Anambra East Local Government Area. Police recovered two pump-action guns, a locally made Beretta pistol, a machete, assorted charms, ten live cartridges, and five live 9mm rounds during the raid.

Operatives from the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu acted on information provided by two suspects previously in custody. Upon approaching the shrine, officers encountered about thirty armed men who opened fire. In the ensuing gunfight, the gang leader, Uchenna Mmaduamaka Nicholas, and other members escaped, some with bullet injuries. One of the newly arrested suspects was also wounded in the thigh and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The four suspects are undergoing interrogation, while police continue efforts to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.

SP Ikenga reaffirmed the Anambra State Police Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents and urged the public to provide information that could assist ongoing investigations. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
