Photos: Arson Attack Rocks Kano as Mosque Engulfed in Flames During Morning Prayer, Dozens Injured
A man whose identity remains undisclosed, set ablaze a mosque located at Laraba Abasawa in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident happened during the early hours of Wednesday, as worshippers gathered for their morning prayer.
According to reports from Daily Trust, the assailant targeted the mosque while community members were engaged in the ‘Subh’ prayer, resulting in injuries to several worshippers. Eyewitnesses revealed that the perpetrator employed petrol to ignite the fire, trapping approximately 40 individuals within the premises.
A member of the affected community, speaking on condition of anonymity, recounted the harrowing ordeal: “The man used petrol and lit fire while the people, about 40 of them, were praying. He locked the mosque after the fire. It took time for people outside to get aware of the incident and rescue the victims who were struggling to break out.”
In the aftermath of the attack, at least 20 worshippers sustained severe injuries and were promptly transported to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano for urgent medical attention.
The motives behind the arson remain unclear, as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrator and ascertain the full extent of the damage caused by this reprehensible act.
