Peter Obi Offers to Meet Bail Conditions for Dele Farotimi
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has pledged to fulfill the bail conditions set for human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi, who is currently entangled in a defamation case involving legal icon Afe Babalola.
An Ekiti Magistrate Court granted Farotimi bail, stipulating a N30 million bond, two sureties (one of whom must own property), the surrender of his passport, and a restriction on granting media interviews.
The announcement of Obi’s support came through Tanko Yunusa, a former spokesperson for Obi’s presidential campaign, in a statement shared Friday on Yunusa’s X account. Yunusa emphasized Obi’s commitment to the rule of law and his desire for a resolution that upholds legal processes while benefiting all involved.
“I consulted His Excellency, Peter Obi, as the leader of the Obidient Movement,” Yunusa stated. “As a respecter of rule of law, due process, and order, he offered to take Dele Farotimi on the bail conditions.”
Yunusa further conveyed Obi’s gratitude to the judiciary and all parties engaged in the case, highlighting the former governor’s hope for an outcome that aligns with the principles of justice.
