Peter Obi Is Fully in the Coalition and Knows He Can’t Risk Returning to PDP – Bolaji Abdullahi
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, remains firmly part of the opposition coalition and has no plans to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), according to Bolaji Abdullahi, interim national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on Arise Television’s *Prime Time* on Monday, Abdullahi dismissed speculation about Obi’s possible shift in allegiance. He said Obi understands the political risks of rejoining the PDP, especially given what he described as the continued influence of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the opposition party.
“Peter is in the coalition regardless of what anybody is saying,” Abdullahi stated. “Everyone knows that the jugular of PDP is still in the hands of the ruling party. Peter Obi, more than anyone else, knows that he cannot take the risk of going to the PDP.”
Abdullahi noted that while the ADC’s recent activities have triggered movement within the PDP, the focus of his party remains on internal development. He emphasized that the ADC, which is only a month old, is not currently engaged in discussions about its presidential candidate.
“Our party is one month old. We are not having any conversation about who will be the flagbearer at the moment. We are focused on developing the party, building structures, and establishing systems that demonstrate our commitment to democracy,” he said.
He assured that when the time comes, the party’s presidential candidate would be chosen through a democratic and transparent process.
