PDP Sweeps Osun LG Elections, Wins All 30 LGAs and 332 Wards
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has secured a landslide victory in the Osun State local government elections, winning all 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 332 wards across the state.
The chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Abioye, announced the results on Saturday, declaring the PDP candidates victorious in every contested position.
“I’m glad to announce to you that the local government election, as conducted by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, has been successfully concluded,” Abioye said.
He emphasized that the election complied with constitutional provisions, existing laws, regulations, and guidelines, adding that the exercise was conducted to fill vacancies in all LGAs and wards across the state.
“The election was contested by 18 political parties, and results have been submitted to the commission. According to the available results from the field, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged winners in all 332 wards and 30 local government areas of Osun State,” he added.
### Security Concerns and Police Intervention
Earlier in the day, Abioye alleged that police officers sealed off the OSSIEC office, preventing journalists from accessing accreditation tags and jackets necessary for covering the election. He further stated that OSSIEC officials, along with voting materials, were detained while en route to polling units.
The police had previously called for the suspension of the election, citing potential security threats and the risk of violence. On Friday, Muyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson for the police, warned that “credible intelligence” indicated plans by certain individuals to disrupt the peace in the state.
Despite the security concerns, the election proceeded, culminating in a clean sweep for the PDP across Osun State.
