PDP Suspends Two State Chairmen Over Alleged Plot to Disrupt National Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended two state chairmen over alleged attempts to sabotage the party’s upcoming national convention. The decision was taken at a meeting on Tuesday at the party’s FCT secretariat in Abuja, chaired by Edward Percy Masha, acting secretary of the forum of state chairmen.

The suspended officials are Austine Nwachukwu, chairman of Imo PDP, and Amah Abraham Nnana, chairman of Abia PDP. The forum accused them of collaborating with “external forces” linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in efforts to disrupt preparations for the convention scheduled for November 15–16.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the forum criticized their attempt to obtain a court injunction to halt the convention, calling it “a betrayal of trust and collective resolve.” The communique was signed by Tony Aziegbemi, chairman of the forum, and Edward Percy Masha, its secretary. Aziegbemi, who also chairs Edo PDP, was appointed as the new forum chairman.

The forum’s meeting also addressed issues concerning party unity, national opposition dynamics, and convention preparations. It condemned what it described as the APC’s “undemocratic and desperate attempts” to influence PDP governors, lawmakers, and other stakeholders, labeling such actions as “an assault on democracy” and a threat to multiparty governance.

A vote of confidence was passed in the PDP’s national working committee, governors’ forum, and other statutory organs. The forum reaffirmed its commitment to working with party leadership to strengthen the PDP as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections, urging members to remain united and steadfast despite political distractions.
