PDP NWC Submits Report on Wike’s Alleged Anti-Party Activities as NEC Gathers
In preparation for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the National Working Committee (NWC) is set to present a report identifying members allegedly involved in anti-party activities during the 2023 general elections. This development comes amidst growing tensions within the party ranks.
According to directives issued by the PDP National Organising Secretary, Umar Bature, state chapters were tasked with identifying members engaged in anti-party actions following the 2023 elections. The NWC, responsible for compiling these reports, is slated to submit them to the NEC during its Thursday meeting.
Sources within the party suggest that former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, might feature prominently in the submitted report. Wike, along with other PDP governors, had openly opposed the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, citing disagreements over vice-presidential candidacy.
The submission of the anti-party report is expected to be a critical agenda item during the NEC meeting. Members anticipate deliberations on potential sanctions against individuals implicated in the report.
Meanwhile, another contentious issue likely to dominate discussions is the tenure of the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum. Calls for his replacement with a substantive chairman have been mounting, prompting speculation over his continued leadership.
However, due to ongoing legal proceedings concerning the party’s leadership, the matter of Damagum’s status may not be formally addressed during the NEC meeting. Instead, discussions are anticipated to revolve around state congresses and reconciliation efforts within the party.
The NEC meeting, preceded by a gathering of the PDP National Caucus, will convene key stakeholders to chart the party’s course forward. With the caucus playing a pivotal role in setting the agenda for NEC deliberations, its decisions are likely to shape the party’s future trajectory.
In a related development, the PDP caucus in the House of Representatives has urged party leadership to prioritize reconciliation and address pending litigations. Emphasizing the need for unity and focus, the caucus underscored the party’s potential to reclaim its position as a dominant political force in Nigeria.
Furthermore, the caucus called on the government to urgently address the country’s security challenges, setting a three-month deadline for tangible progress. Additionally, it advocated for the recall of a suspended lawmaker, highlighting the importance of effective legislative representation.
As the PDP braces for crucial deliberations at its NEC meeting, the outcomes of these discussions are poised to shape the party’s trajectory in the coming months.
