“PDP is Plotting to Import Rivers Violence to Imo” – Uzodinma Government Alleges Instigation by Political Rival

The administration of Governor Hope Uzodinma has accused the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of plotting to discredit the current government through potential violence in the wake of the recently concluded local government elections.

In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, the state government claimed to have credible information suggesting that the PDP is attempting to replicate the unrest seen in Rivers State, where violence erupted against newly elected local government officials shortly after their inauguration.

Emelumba pointed out that the PDP had allegedly warned local government chairmen in Imo State to avoid council secretariats in all 27 local government areas, following the violent incidents in Rivers. He described this warning as “ominous” and urged security agencies to remain vigilant.

“It is astonishing that just 24 hours after the violence in Rivers State, the PDP issued such a statement. This cannot be ignored,” Emelumba stated.

While the PDP has been vocal in its criticisms of the Uzodinma administration, accusing it of various financial improprieties, Emelumba emphasized that any threats of violence would not be tolerated. He expressed concern over the PDP’s contradictory claims regarding the local government elections, noting their simultaneous assertion of candidate victories and allegations of election misconduct.

“After a successful election, why is the PDP threatening our chairmen just after the incidents in Rivers?” he questioned. “Their incoherent statements suggest a desire to retaliate for their substantial electoral losses.”

In response to the PDP’s allegations that newly elected chairmen were coerced into submitting resignation letters or that the governor had misappropriated local government funds for a state electricity project, Emelumba defended the integrity of the election process and the transparency of financial transactions related to the project.

He labeled the PDP as “sore losers” who were unprepared for the elections and urged them to pursue legal recourse if they believe their grievances warrant it, in line with advice from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Emelumba concluded with a stern warning to the PDP against any violent actions toward the democratically elected officials, emphasizing the need for peace and stability in the state.
