PDP in Turmoil: ‘I’m Not Aware of Any Convention in Ibadan’ – Wike

A fresh crisis is brewing within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, cast doubt on the legitimacy of the party’s planned convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

On Monday, the PDP announced the formation of a 110-member committee to organize its 2025 national convention, scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan. Chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the committee includes governors, former governors, and senior party officials. Notably, Wike’s name was absent from the list.

The party, through its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said the committee’s role is to ensure proper preparations for the convention, which is expected to fill key National Working Committee positions across the country’s geopolitical zones.

However, speaking on *Politics Today* on Tuesday, Wike insisted he had no knowledge of the Ibadan convention and questioned the committee’s legitimacy.

“Have they given a date for Ibadan? When did NEC agree on that? As a member, I’ve not been told. Nobody has invited me to a NEC meeting for me to say that NEC has sat,” Wike said.

He added, “Those few people who say they have held a NEC meeting, let it be on record—that is not NEC. In fact, we are meeting tomorrow to challenge it.”

Wike’s statement has heightened tensions within the PDP, raising doubts about the party’s unity and the decision-making process ahead of its national convention. Party members and political observers are now closely watching developments as the November exercise approaches.
