PDP Governors to Meet in Abuja on Tuesday Ahead of Critical NEC Meeting
The Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are slated to convene in Abuja on Tuesday for a pivotal meeting. This gathering comes in anticipation of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday and follows a session held by the party’s Reconciliation Committee.
Led by Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the Reconciliation Committee will brief the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on its findings and recommendations during Tuesday’s meeting. This briefing is crucial as it will set the stage for the NWC to review the report before presenting it to the NEC for ratification.
Oyinlola emphasized the importance of unity within the party during a recent press conference. After a three-hour discussion with the PDP National Assembly Caucus, he remarked, “As part of our assignment as members of the National Reconciliation Committee, we scheduled to meet with National Assembly members to gather insights into the challenges affecting our party’s political standing.”
He expressed optimism about the discussions, stating that the suggestions gathered would help strengthen the party’s unity. “For any party to enter a political battle and win, it must be united. That’s what we’re aiming for,” Oyinlola asserted.
The upcoming Ondo Governorship election was also a focal point of their discussions. “The National Reconciliation Committee has toured the South-West, and the Ondo election came up prominently. We are putting our strategies in place,” he added.
When queried about specific factions within the party requiring reconciliation, Oyinlola clarified, “Anyone within the party who has a disagreement with someone else, those are the individuals we’re reconciling.” He also dismissed rumors regarding potential suspensions within the party, stating, “As far as we’re concerned, I would take that as a rumor for now. We’re meeting with the National Working Committee tomorrow, so after that, you can ask me again.”
