PDP Governors’ Forum: ‘Our Party Is Not One Man’s Enterprise,’

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has firmly stated that the PDP is not the domain of a single individual, responding to recent comments from party member Samuel Nwanosike regarding the 2027 presidential aspirations of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

Nwanosike, a former chairman of the Ikwerre Local Government Council in Rivers State, suggested on TVC that Governor Mohammed intends to run for president with Fubara as his running mate. This comment comes amidst tensions in the party, particularly following threats from former Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike, who has indicated potential unrest in PDP-controlled states should Fubara gain more influence in party leadership.

In reaction, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, emphasized that Governor Mohammed remains dedicated to the values of unity and effective leadership. Agbo asserted that the PDP is not a one-man operation, urging party members to prioritize reconciliation, discipline, and the common good over individual ambitions.

“The Forum is at liberty to advise all PDP members that as long as the PDP is not one man’s enterprise… the common good of our people shall remain the only anchor of the trustworthy leadership our Party faithful expect from us,” Agbo stated.

He also defended Governor Mohammed’s approach to leadership, rejecting any notion of alliance with factions seeking to undermine the authority of elected officials. “Gov. Bala Mohammed will not belong to any clique that seeks to thwart the powers of a governor to serve his state and people,” he said, highlighting the importance of reason and reconciliation in political discourse.

The statement from the governors further articulated that while Nigerian politics is competitive, it should not devolve into self-serving transactions. Instead, the PDP is committed to centrist policies that advocate for social justice and economic development.

The forum reminded party members that the PDP has historically served as an umbrella for diverse voices, allowing for growth and inclusivity in public service. “Many party men and women have benefited and transformed into mentors and statesmen, creating a tradition of values that must be respected,” Agbo remarked.
