PDP Governors Dismiss Rumored El-Rufai/Obi Ticket for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has denied reports that five of its members are backing a potential Nasir El-Rufai/Peter Obi presidential ticket for the 2027 election.

In a statement signed by the Forum’s chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the governors dismissed the claims as baseless. The Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, described the circulating reports as “unpleasant and provoking publications” spread by individuals seeking to undermine the Forum’s credibility.

According to the statement, the allegations are part of a broader scheme by “negative forces” attempting to question the leadership capacity of the Forum, particularly amid Nigeria’s economic challenges. The governors emphasized that the PDP is focused on reconciliation and strengthening party unity rather than entertaining such speculations.

“The PDP Governors’ Forum is not in consonance with these actors, neither does it enjoy any ambience of political space to discuss nor seal the auction of the PDP through lowlife grifters who are allegedly working behind the scenes to support a potential Nasir El-Rufai/Peter Obi presidential ticket in the 2027 election,” the statement read.

The Forum further accused detractors of being unsettled by the PDP governors’ efforts to alleviate economic hardship despite challenges posed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). They urged Nigerians to disregard the rumors, describing them as an attempt to discredit the party’s progress.

“In the world of politics, rumors and speculations are common. However, we will not allow these ‘Enemies of Progress’ and ‘Agents of Confusion’ to gaslight the Nigerian people into drawing wrong and erroneous conclusions,” the governors stated.

Reaffirming their commitment to the party’s principles, the Forum assured the public that PDP governors remain united and dedicated to improving the lives of Nigerians.
