PDP Governors Applaud Supreme Court Decision, Condemn Inconsistent Ruling in Plateau State

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has expressed their approval of the Supreme Court’s judgment regarding the party’s petition against the results of the presidential election, considering it as the conclusion of the party’s pursuit of the presidency.

Nonetheless, the governors have raised concerns over what they perceive as a targeted campaign against the party’s elected officials in Plateau State, citing pre-election cases that contradict the Supreme Court’s guidelines.

Furthermore, the governors have welcomed the involvement of President Bola Tinubu in mediating the dispute in Rivers State between the incumbent governor and his predecessor.

A communique issued after a meeting of the PDP Governors’ Forum and signed by its chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, emphasizes, “The meeting acknowledged the recent Supreme Court judgment on the 2023 presidential election, which we believe marks the end of the presidential election cycle, as litigation must ultimately come to a close. As a forum, we maintain our faith and confidence in the judiciary’s ability to dispense justice in political and other matters before the courts.”

Concerning the inconsistent rulings in Plateau State, the governors expressed their worry, stating, “We are troubled by the fact that, despite the Supreme Court’s established precedents on pre-election matters, PDP candidates in Plateau State are facing disqualification on the same grounds. We call on the judiciary at the highest level to ensure that our legal principles are not distorted. We remain vigilant in our commitment to democracy and good governance in the country.”

The PDP governors also raised alarm over recent developments in Rivers State and extended their gratitude for President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in resolving the crisis. They urged all parties involved in the Rivers State dispute to pursue peaceful means of resolution and offered their platform to facilitate a swift and equitable resolution of the issues at hand.
