PDP Expels Obio/Akpor Councilor Achor Nna Following Support for Governor Fubara

Former leader of the Obio/Akpor legislative council, Hon. Achor Nna, faced expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his ward after resigning from his position and openly declaring support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The decision was communicated through a letter titled ‘RE: EXPULSION OF HON ACHOR NNA,’ dated 9th March 2024, and signed by Collins Chukwu, the PDP Ward 9 Chairman in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. The letter accused Nna of neglecting multiple invitations to defend himself against allegations of misconduct and misappropriation.

According to the letter, the Ward 9 PDP executive, chaired by Collins Chukwu, received the suspension of Hon. Achor Nna from the Elioparanwo PDP chapter on the 10th day of February 2024. In compliance with the party constitution’s chapter 10, section 57 (1), a disciplinary committee was set up to investigate the allegations.

The disciplinary committee, led by Chief Solomon Chime Esq, extended several invitations to Achor Nna to appear and defend himself against the serious allegations of misappropriation of funds and misconduct. Regrettably, all invitations were declined by Nna.

Consequently, the committee recommended Hon. Achor Nna’s expulsion from the party. The letter stated that due to his inability to address the accusations, the ward had “no option but to take this decision as the ward cannot condone his unwarranted acts and indiscipline.”

In light of Hon. Achor Nna’s resignation from his position as the leader of the OBIO/AKPOR legislative council and councillor of Ward 9, the PDP Ward 9 Chairman expressed that the decision did not come as a surprise, emphasizing Nna’s failure to defend himself from the allegations leading to his expulsion.

The letter concluded by noting the ongoing political crisis in Rivers state, indicating that both sides are actively vying for control of the political structure in the state.
