PDP Convention Orders Dissolution of Party Structures in Five South-East and South-South States
The Peoples Democratic Party has dissolved its party structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers following a motion adopted at its national convention in Ibadan. Host governor Seyi Makinde moved the motion, which was approved during the party’s elective congress, affirming new executive committees only in states and zones where congresses had been concluded.
Makinde told delegates that nationwide congresses held between 2024 and 2025 produced executives at ward, local government, state, and zonal levels, as well as national ex-officio members. He said the exercises were conducted in line with the Electoral Act, the party’s constitution, and internal guidelines, adding that both the National Executive Committee and the National Working Committee had already endorsed the outcomes.
He announced that despite these approvals, all PDP structures in Imo, Abia, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers stood dissolved at every tier. According to him, the resolution authorizes public notification of the action. The motion received support from National Auditor Daniel Obiechina Okechukwu, who seconded it on the convention floor.
