Passengers Overpower Bandits in Zamfara, Killing One and Seizing Two AK-47 Rifles
In a brave and dramatic turn of events, passengers traveling along the Talata Mafara-Gusau highway in Zamfara State managed to thwart a kidnapping attempt by overpowering bandits, resulting in one bandit killed and the seizure of two AK-47 rifles.
The incident took place when a group of passengers, including the family of a bride-to-be, was ambushed by armed bandits. According to an eyewitness account reported by PRNigeria, the bandits blocked the road with their motorcycles, opening fire and forcing vehicles to stop.
The eyewitness described the harrowing moment when the bandits ordered the bride-to-be, her parents, and two other relatives out of their vehicle at gunpoint. The family was then coerced into following the bandits into a nearby forest, leaving the rest of the passengers in shock and fear.
Realizing the immediate danger, the other passengers took swift action to confront the bandits. In a coordinated effort, they launched an attack on one of the bandits, overpowering him and causing his instant death. The second bandit managed to escape, abandoning his firearm in the process.
The passengers retrieved the two AK-47 rifles left behind and made their way out of the forest. They handed the seized weapons over to the military at a nearby checkpoint, ensuring that the situation was under control.
While the group showed immense courage and determination in the face of danger, the incident was not without tragedy. One of the passengers, affected by the traumatic experience, suffered a heart attack and later died in the hospital, PRNigeria reported.
The Zamfara State authorities commended the passengers for their bravery and urged citizens to remain vigilant, emphasizing the importance of reporting any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies.
