Bandits Kill Eight Security Operatives in Zamfara Ambush
Bandits have killed five policemen and three Community Protection Guards during a patrol along the Gusau–Funtua road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to residents, the attack occurred on Thursday evening, October 16, 2025, when the security team was ambushed near Gidan-Giye village, a few kilometres from Tsafe town. An eyewitness, Ya’u Musa, told *Punch* that the assailants opened fire on the patrol vehicle, killing all eight occupants instantly.
Musa said the victims were on special duty from the Government House in Gusau to provide protection for travellers frequently targeted by bandits on the route. He suggested that the attackers might have been tipped off about the team’s movement by informants. After the assault, the bandits reportedly fled into the forest on motorcycles.
The bodies of the slain officers were later taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Gusau.
Governor Dauda Lawal confirmed the incident and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. I just received the sad news of the death of eight security men, comprising policemen and Community Protection Guards, who were ambushed and killed by bandits along the Gusau–Funtua road,” the governor said.
He prayed for the repose of their souls and urged renewed efforts to end the persistent insecurity troubling Zamfara State, the North, and the nation at large.
