Parts of Abuja Plunged Into Darkness as Vandals Strike Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line

Abuja has been plunged into darkness once again following the vandalism of the 330-kilovolt Shiroro-Katampe Transmission Line. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the incident, which occurred late Wednesday night, December 18, 2024.

Ndidi Mbah, the TCN spokesperson, revealed in a statement that the vandalism occurred at approximately 11:43 pm, causing the affected line to lose supply on the grid. A patrol team sent to investigate the issue discovered that a section of the conductor had been stolen between towers T216 and T218.

TCN’s maintenance crew has since been deployed to the site and is working to replace the damaged 330kV conductor. While the restoration of bulk power supply is underway, no exact timeline has been provided for when power will be fully restored.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) also issued notices alerting residents of power outages in various parts of the capital. Affected areas include the CBN Headquarters, Ecumenical Centre, Bank of Industry, Bank of Agriculture, New Chelsea Hotel, Army War College, Reiz Continental Hotel, NBS, Lozumba Complex, UTC, Gidan Isah, Area 10, and their environs. Additional areas impacted are Katsina Ala, Kila Close, Rudolf Close, La Street, Rima Street, Ekororo Street, Sand Link Street, Olufemi Street, and Laih Street.
