Parents Demand Justice Over Nurse’s Mysterious Death in Imo State

The parents of 22-year-old nurse Ginika Judith Okoro, who recently died under mysterious circumstances at the home of her boyfriend, Charles Ndukwu, in Ezeogba, Awaka, Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State, are calling on the Nigeria Police and state government to investigate and uncover the cause of their daughter’s death.

In an emotional interview with Punch Metro on Thursday, Mrs. Caroline Nneji, the grieving mother, recounted, “My only daughter died last Sunday while visiting a young man named Charles. Ginika, who was 22 years old, was raised by us and ran a chemist shop where she treated patients. Sometimes, as a nurse, she would visit patients at their homes. On this tragic Sunday, she visited Charles and never returned.”

She added tearfully, “My only eye has gone. What sin did I commit that cannot be forgiven?”

Mrs. Nneji explained how they were informed of their daughter’s death: “Around 9 pm on Sunday, Charles Ndukwu came to our house and told us that our daughter was unconscious. He said he had taken her to the hospital where the doctor confirmed she was dead.”

Ginika’s stepfather, Mr. Nneji, provided further details, stating, “Charles claimed he had bought pepper soup for our daughter, but after consuming it, she became unconscious. He then rushed her to Edochie Clinic in Awaka, Owerri North, where she was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.”

It was learned that Ndukwu is currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The distraught parents are urging the police and state government to conduct a thorough investigation to reveal the truth behind their daughter’s untimely death and ensure justice is served.

“All we seek from the police and the state government is a proper investigation to uncover the facts behind our daughter’s mysterious death. The truth is all we are asking for, as our daughter cannot come back to life,” they told our correspondent.

ASP Henry Okoye, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, stating, “The police are investigating the matter and assure the public and the family that we will do everything possible to uncover the cause of the young girl’s mysterious death.”
