Panic as Another Fuel Tanker Explodes Near Jigawa-Kano Border

A fuel tanker explosion has once again rocked Jigawa State, located in Northwest Nigeria. The incident, which took place near the Jigawa-Kano border, caused significant alarm as flames engulfed the tanker, sparking panic among locals and passersby.

Aliyu M. A., Public Relations Officer for the Federal Fire Service (FFS) in Jigawa State, confirmed the explosion in a press briefing on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. According to Aliyu, the FFS was notified of the emergency on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, through a distress call from Kuho Village Head, Zubairu Ahmad. The call reported a tanker accident at Tsaida, Kwanar Kalle, near Gamoji village along the Maiduri Road.

“At approximately 10:43 a.m., the Federal Fire Service received the call, and our team promptly arrived on-site by 10:50 a.m. The fire was quickly contained and brought under control,” Aliyu reported.

This incident comes as a grim reminder of a deadly fuel tanker explosion just a month earlier, on October 15, 2024, which claimed over 170 lives. That accident involved a petrol-laden truck traveling from Kano to Nguru, Yobe State, which exploded in Majia, Taura Local Government Area, causing widespread devastation.
