Over 30 Native Doctors Still in Custody – Anambra State Govt
The Anambra State government has confirmed that all arrested native doctors, including Akwa Okuko Tiwalu Aki, Eke Hit, and Onye-Eze Jesus, remain in custody as investigations continue.
Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS), addressing speculations on social media that some of the detainees had been released. He stated that his office had not issued any press statement regarding the names of those still in custody or any planned court arraignment.
Dr. Mefor reaffirmed that over thirty native doctors are still being held and that those found culpable will be charged in court. He emphasized that the Anambra Homeland Security Law prohibits charms such as Oke-ite, Awele, Ibobo, and Odeshi, and also targets individuals who prepare them.
The commissioner clarified that Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is not opposed to traditional worship but is committed to eliminating criminal practices associated with it. He stressed that the government’s priority is fostering a safer society by tackling illegal activities linked to native doctors and their operations.
