Our stand on Fani-Kayode’s attack on our Journalist – Daily Trust
The management of Media Trust Limited, the Publishers of Daily Trust Newspapers have come out to condemn the action of former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode.
In a video that has since gone viral, FFK was seen verbally assaulting a journalist, saying “What type of question is that? Bankrolling who? Do you know who you are talking to………..?”
It was reported that during the press conference, the Journalist identified as Eyo Charles had asked Fani-Kayode a question, saying “Sir, please you did not disclose to us who is bankrolling you?”
Reports have it that, before the commencement of the question session, the moderator had advised the journalist present at the press conference limit their questions to issues from an earlier speech delivered by FFK. The former Minister was however reporter to have interjected saying “There is no problem at all. They should ask any manner of questions, I am equal to the task”.
Eyo Charles however threw in the question that enraged Fani-Kayode. In the viral video, FFK had said that the Journalist should report himself to his publisher.
The management of the media outfit have responded, saying “we stand by Charles, and commend him for his calmness during the ordeal”.
They further stated “that Fani-Kayode attacks a reporter during his job, is an indication of the chilling disregard he has towards the media, and it’s work in investigating and reporting on issues”.
The management however urged the Nigeria Police to take note saying “if anything happens to Charles, Daily Trust will hold Fani-Kayode responsible, especially due to the intensity of the verbal threats he issued during the shocking incident”.
