“Our People Can’t Be Coerced Into Abandoning Nnamdi Kanu” — IPOB Hails Sit-at-Home Compliance

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) says widespread observance of Monday’s sit-at-home order across parts of the South-East shows that residents remain committed to the cause of its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The action, declared in solidarity with traders of the Onitsha Main Market following the recent closure of their shops by Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, saw significant compliance in Anambra State.

Although the state government reopened the market after a one-week shutdown, trader turnout remained low on Monday. Major roads were largely empty, several offices and businesses did not open in the early hours, and many schools also stayed closed.

In a statement, IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful described the development as “total and overwhelming compliance across Biafraland,” saying it reflected public resistance to what he called attempts to pressure people into distancing themselves from Kanu.

Powerful said residents across the region had “spoken with one voice” and maintained that the response to the sit-at-home demonstrated continued support for Kanu and a refusal to yield to intimidation.

He added that the group remains committed to what he described as order and discipline while insisting on Kanu’s release from detention.

The Anambra State Government has not issued an official response to IPOB’s claims at the time of filing this report.
