Osun Teenager Sentenced to Three Years for Stealing Water Taps

An 18-year-old teenager, Abiodun Adewuyi, has been sentenced to three years in prison by an Osun Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ede for the theft of brass water taps.

Adewuyi was arrested by operatives of the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) after he was caught in the act at Durodola community, Owode-Ede town. The arrest took place on April 16, at around 5:40 pm, when he was seen removing water taps from a building. At the time of his arrest, the suspect had a total of seven water taps in his possession.

The spokesperson for the NSCDC Osun Command, Adeleke Kehinde, stated that Adewuyi was caught with two brass water taps, while subsequent investigation revealed that he had been selling stolen taps to scrap metal buyers. This act was deemed to be in violation of Section 390 of the Criminal Code Law of Osun State.

The trial was conducted on Monday, April 22, before Chief Magistrate V. A. Adedokun, where Adewuyi was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison for the theft.

In response to the incident, the Osun NSCDC Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, urged parents and guardians to educate their children and wards about the consequences of criminal behavior. He warned that such actions not only tarnish the family’s name but can also attract harsh penalties. The Commandant reassured the public that the NSCDC would not allow criminals to find refuge anywhere within the state, promising a relentless pursuit of justice.
