“Opposition preparing for election, INEC, judiciary, Tinubu are prepping for a coronation” – Farotimi
Nigerian lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has alleged that preparations for the 2027 general elections are already being shaped in ways that could weaken the credibility of the process.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday night, Farotimi claimed that while opposition parties are focused on electoral competition, key institutions and political actors are moving in a different direction.
He specifically mentioned President Bola Tinubu, the judiciary, and the Independent National Electoral Commission Independent National Electoral Commission, alleging that their actions amount to planning for a predetermined outcome rather than a competitive election.
“The opposition are preparing for an election, INEC, the judiciary, and Tinubu are prepping for a coronation,” he wrote.
His remarks followed a decision by INEC earlier in the day to remove the names of former Senate President David Mark and former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as national leaders of the African Democratic Congress African Democratic Congress.
INEC also stated that it would not recognise internal factions within the party and would not observe any conventions or congresses organised by groups linked to the disputed leadership structure.
