One Dead, Three Injured as Suspected Mentally Unstable Man Attacks Residents in Taraba Community
A tragic incident occurred in Buzzah community, Zing Local Government Area of Taraba State, on Saturday night, October 18, 2025, when a man reportedly suffering from mental instability attacked residents, killing one person and injuring three others.
The suspect, identified as Dennis, is known in Zing town for roaming the streets dressed in white traditional attire while pretending to be a preacher. According to reports, the attack took place around 11:00 PM.
A local resident, Sabi Fidelis Absalom, confirmed that the deceased has been identified as Mr. Hammanyero Cha’ayonli.
“Community members noted that the suspect often showed hostility toward the individuals he attacked, claiming they posed a threat to him because they tried to curb his disruptive behavior,” Absalom said.
He added that two of the injured individuals are members of the local vigilante group and that the suspect was armed with a light weapon, which has caused panic in the community in the past.
The three victims are currently receiving treatment at Zing General Hospital, while authorities continue to investigate the incident.
