Ondo Prophetess Arrested Following Deaths of Mother and Newborn During Church Delivery
The Ondo State Police have arrested Mrs. Folashade Adekola, a prophetess in Akure, following the tragic deaths of a woman and her newborn during childbirth at her church in the Oke-Aro area.
According to police and family sources, Jumoke Adesuwa, the deceased, suffered severe bleeding after delivering her child in the church, ultimately leading to her death. The newborn was reported to have died immediately after birth.
The deceased’s brother reported the incident to the police, prompting officers to detain Prophetess Adekola. Police spokesperson, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the arrest and stated that the case is now under investigation with the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
The deceased’s family described the shocking sequence of events to SK Blog. They received a call from someone at the church shortly after the birth, informing Mrs. Adesuwa’s husband that his wife had given birth. However, when he and another family member arrived at the church, they were told that the baby had died but the mother was still alive. On entering, they found Mrs. Adesuwa bleeding heavily.
The family rushed her to multiple nearby hospitals, but three of them refused to admit her, likely due to the severity of her condition. By the time they reached a fourth hospital, efforts to save her life were unsuccessful, and she passed away.
Returning to the church to collect the newborn’s remains, the family found the baby’s body in a room described as far from suitable for childbirth, raising further concerns about the conditions at the church.
The family then reported the matter to the Oke-Aro Police Station, resulting in the prophetess’s arrest. Both bodies have been moved to a local mortuary as police continue their investigation.
