Ohanaeze Reacts to Nnamdi Kanu’s Plea for Negotiation with FG Over Terrorism Charges
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has implored the Federal Government to seize the opportunity presented by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), for reconciliation. Kanu, currently facing charges of alleged treasonable felony, hinted at exploring an out-of-court settlement during a recent court appearance.
Kanu’s legal team, led by Mr. Ejimakor Aloy, suggested invoking Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act to facilitate reconciliation in the case. This proposition, discussed with the Federal Government’s counsel Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, has been met with cautious consideration from the authorities.
Reacting to these developments, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, emphasized the urgent need for dialogue and peaceful resolution. “Now that the IPOB leader himself has opened the page for reconciliation, the Federal Government should grab this opportunity to ensure a total restoration of peace in the South-East,” he stated in a released statement.
Highlighting the devastation wrought by prolonged unrest in the region, Okwu reiterated the organization’s longstanding advocacy for peaceful resolution. “No price is too much for peace,” he affirmed, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to facilitate the dialogue process promptly.
Furthermore, the group appealed to perpetrators of violence in the South-East to reconsider their actions. “We appeal to their conscience, just like Kanu said, to stop making our young women widows and their children fatherless,” Okwu urged, echoing Kanu’s recent condemnation of such violence.
