Ogah Reclaims Abia Reps Seat as Appeal Court Overturns Tribunal Verdict
The Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal delivered a momentous verdict on Friday, overturning the earlier ruling by the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Umuahia. This ruling reinstates Honorable Amobi Ogah as the rightful representative of the Isikwuato Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State.
The election petition tribunal had, in a surprising judgment back in September, nullified Ogah’s electoral victory, subsequently declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and the incumbent Minister of State for Labour, Nkiruka Onyejeocha, as the winner of the election.
However, refusing to concede defeat, Amobi Ogah took his case to the Court of Appeal to challenge the tribunal’s decision. His tenacity has now been vindicated with a favorable outcome.
The Court of Appeal, in its judgment, made it clear that the appeal presented by the Labour Party candidate was indeed meritorious. As a result, the appellate court has set aside the previous ruling of the lower court, thereby restoring Honorable Amobi Ogah to his rightful position as the representative of Isikwuato Umunneochi Federal Constituency. This ruling is bound to have significant implications for the political landscape in Abia State.
