In a recent development, the Edo State Government has taken the decision to disband the media crew associated with the Office of the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu. The decision was announced through a statement released by Chris Nehikhare, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, on Monday.
According to the statement, the government has directed Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu to now seek media coverage for his office’s activities from the Ministry of Communication and Orientation. The move follows an incident that occurred during a colloquium held to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum celebration. The event took place at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage.
During the colloquium, a group of individuals claiming to be part of the deputy governor’s media crew attempted to enter the hall where the governor and other distinguished guests were already seated. This action was in direct violation of the established protocol for media coverage of the event.
Chris Nehikhare expressed regret over the orchestrated disruption and walkout, describing it as highly regrettable. The decision to disband the media crew comes as a response to this incident, in an effort to prevent any future breaches of protocol during official events.
Going forward, Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu will be required to coordinate media coverage of his office’s activities through the Ministry of Communication and Orientation, in accordance with the new directive issued by the Edo State Government. The move underscores the importance of adhering to established protocols for media coverage during official events.
