Obama Joins Calls Urging Biden to Quit Presidential Race Amid Fitness Concerns
Former US President Barack Obama has reportedly joined a growing chorus of voices within the Democratic Party urging President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race due to concerns about his fitness for office.
According to a report by the Washington Post, Obama has been actively engaged in discussions with top Democrats, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, about the future of Biden’s campaign. Sources familiar with these conversations reveal that Obama recently expressed doubts about Biden’s ability to secure a victory in the upcoming November elections, suggesting that the president should reconsider his candidacy.
The Democratic Party is increasingly anxious about Biden’s prospects and their chances of retaining the White House. While Biden and his team have publicly remained confident, political analysts indicate that the mounting pressure is beginning to affect the president.
Calls for the 81-year-old Biden to step down intensified following his lackluster performance in a recent debate against Donald Trump. Despite Obama initially offering support by stating “bad debate nights happen,” he has since been silent as dissatisfaction within the party grows.
Biden’s recent faltering steps and increased gaffes have further fueled concerns about his mental alertness, despite his repeated assurances of being fit for the job. Additionally, the White House announced on Wednesday that Biden tested positive for COVID-19 and is experiencing mild symptoms, adding to the concerns about his health.
