NUC Opens Nationwide Recruitment, Invites Applications Through Official Portal
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has announced the launch of a nationwide recruitment exercise aimed at filling vacancies across several cadres at its Abuja headquarters.
In a notice issued on Friday, the Commission invited qualified Nigerians to apply for positions in the officer, confidential secretary, clerical, and auxiliary staff categories. It emphasized that the process is free of charge and applications must be submitted only through its official careers portal, accessible via careers.nuc.edu.ng or nuc.edu.ng. Interested candidates have six weeks to apply, with only shortlisted applicants progressing to further stages of screening.
For the officer cadre, available roles include Senior Officer (CONTISS 9), Trainee/Officer I (CONTISS 8), and Trainee Officer II (CONTISS 7). Applicants for the Senior Officer position must hold a PhD in a relevant discipline or a Master’s degree with at least six years of post-qualification experience, while additional professional certifications are considered an advantage. Candidates for the Trainee/Officer I role must possess either a Master’s degree or a first degree with a minimum of three years of relevant experience. For the Trainee Officer II role, a first degree in a related field is required.
The Commission also announced recruitment for Confidential Secretary I (CONTISS 7), requiring a Higher National Diploma in Secretarial Studies and three years of post-qualification experience. Clerical and auxiliary positions are also available, including Assistant Cameraman, Data Processing Assistant, Artisan/Craftsman roles such as carpenter, plumber, electrician, and air-conditioning mechanic, as well as Lift Operator and Motor Driver/Mechanic. Minimum entry requirements for these positions range from a First School Leaving Certificate to an ‘O’ Level certificate with trade test qualifications, supported by relevant technical training or work experience.
Established in 1962 and granted statutory powers in 1974, the NUC is the regulatory body responsible for the accreditation of universities, licensing of new institutions, and enforcement of quality standards across Nigeria’s 283 recognized universities, which include 72 federal, 67 state, and 168 private institutions.
