NSCDC Deploys Special Squads in Fierce Manhunt for Edo Killers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intensified security operations in Edo State following the killing of eight of its operatives in an ambush at Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area. The operatives were attacked while on duty at the BUA Cement Company, where they had been deployed to protect critical infrastructure.

Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Audi, has ordered the deployment of Special Tactical Squads, including the Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Weapons and Tactics team, and Special Protection Unit, to comb the forests in search of the attackers and to rescue a kidnapped Chinese expatriate. The operation is to be led by Dandaura Appollos, head of the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad.

The attack, which took place on Friday, escalated into a fierce three-hour gun battle. Eyewitnesses said the officers bravely repelled the attackers and successfully rescued four expatriates, but eight NSCDC personnel lost their lives in the exchange.

In a statement, the Corps’ spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale, said the Commandant General commended the courage and sacrifice of the fallen officers, describing them as men who showed resilience and dedication to duty until their last moments. Audi assured that security around the BUA Cement Company has been reinforced to safeguard both expatriate and local workers as well as the company’s assets.

He also called on the public to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in tracking down the killers and restoring peace in the area.
