NSCDC Arrests Five Fake Security Operatives, Recovers Rifle in Anambra
The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested five suspected fake private security operatives and recovered a pump-action rifle during a coordinated raid in Awka.
State Commandant Maku Olatunde disclosed this on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, while parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
According to Olatunde, the operation, which took place across several hotels and grocery stores in Awka on Tuesday, October 28, followed credible intelligence reports indicating the presence of individuals posing as security operatives. He said intelligence suggested that the suspects were allegedly hired by political actors to cause unrest ahead of the November 8 governorship election in the state.
He explained that the operation, carried out by the Private Guard Companies Department, was aimed at flushing out criminal elements, preventing illegal possession of firearms, and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
The suspects were identified as Mmeka Ekene (43), Peter Detuchi Kelvin (28), Sunday Akpan Idiong (45), Enemuo Ifeanyichukwu (26), and Francis Ugochukwu Nwosu (28).
Olatunde reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state before, during, and after the election. He said the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, would take all necessary measures to suppress any act capable of destabilising the peace enjoyed in the state.
He further revealed that surveillance and intelligence operations have been intensified to prevent any attempts by disruptive elements or desperate politicians to compromise the polls. The suspects are currently being interrogated and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
