NRC Unveils Revitalized Kano to Lagos Express Train: A Milestone in Nigeria’s Rail Renaissance
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has officially reintroduced the Kano to Lagos express train service, famously known as the 2LL.
Following extensive refurbishments and successful test-runs, the 2LL is set to reestablish a vital connection between two economic powerhouses of Nigeria. The Guardian bore witness to the 2LL navigating from Kano to Minna during the test-runs, capturing the attention of onlookers at the Minna Railway Station. These trials aimed at fine-tuning operations signal the much-anticipated return to service.
The Federal Government’s diligent repair efforts on the damaged segments of the Minna/Kaduna/Kano railway tracks have been completed, receiving certification from the NRC for their operational readiness.
Welcoming the train’s arrival were key NRC management figures, including Obafunso Suleimon, the representative of the Railway District Manager, North Western District, alongside other officials. This moment marked a substantial milestone in the overall restoration process.
Passengers can anticipate a lavish travel experience aboard the revitalized 2LL, boasting modernized coaches equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for unparalleled comfort and style. The decision for the train to overnight in Minna before continuing its journey to Lagos reflects the final preparations ensuring the safety and reliability of the Minna to Lagos tracks.
Expressing enthusiasm, Obafunso Suleimon acknowledged the Federal Government’s commitment, particularly lauding the efforts of Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, and NRC’s Managing Director, Fidet Okheria, in rejuvenating the railway system for the benefit of the Nigerian populace.
The return of the express train stands as a testament to the government’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the nation’s transportation infrastructure. After a hiatus of approximately two years due to various challenges, the 2LL Kano to Lagos train is set to resume service under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
