Nollywood Veteran Charles Inojie Exposes “Army of Jezebel Daughters” in the Film Industry
In a recent episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, Nollywood actor and director, Charles Inojie, boldly spoke out against a pervasive issue within the Nigerian movie industry. Inojie unveiled what he referred to as an “army of Jezebel daughters” who have infiltrated Nollywood, driven by a hidden agenda to secure movie roles through illicit means.
Inojie, a respected figure in the world of Nigerian cinema, shed light on the distressing practice of “sex-for-role,” asserting that this unethical exchange is not solely instigated by filmmakers but also involves some actresses who actively seek to exploit their sexuality in pursuit of coveted movie opportunities.
He stated, “There are some actresses who can do anything just to be in front of the camera. And when you meet a character who is not properly formed as the director or producer, he will fall. So, there are actresses like that. The issue of sex-for-role is not just one-way. It is a two-way thing.”
Inojie’s candid remarks underscore the complex dynamics at play in Nollywood, where both aspiring actresses and filmmakers may find themselves entangled in unethical arrangements. He highlighted the existence of an “army of Jezebel daughters” on a mission to seduce and manipulate directors and producers into compromising situations.
The actor-director also drew attention to the distressing level of desperation among some of these individuals, emphasizing their vulnerability to the snares set by unscrupulous producers and directors. He suggested that this desperation often stems from challenging backgrounds and a fervent desire to break into the competitive world of Nigerian cinema.
Charles Inojie’s revelation has reignited discussions about the need for ethical standards and safeguarding measures within Nollywood, prompting a critical examination of the industry’s culture and practices. The actor’s willingness to address this issue openly may serve as a catalyst for change, encouraging stakeholders to take decisive action against the exploitation of talent in exchange for movie roles.
