“Nobody in This World Can Put Hardship on You, Only Allah,” Jigawa Governor Tells Protesters
The Jigawa State governor, Malam Umar Namadi, has addressed protesters, emphasizing that only Allah has the power to determine one’s economic status. This statement was made during a Thursday night broadcast in response to recent protests against hunger and economic hardship in the state.
Governor Namadi stressed that looting and destruction of property by those posing as #EndBadGovernance protesters is not a solution to their grievances. He firmly stated, “As Muslims, we believe that there’s nobody in this world that can put hardship on you, only Allah (SWT), and there’s nobody that can rescue you from that hardship. Therefore, protest is not a solution and it will not be a solution.”
The governor also condemned the use of young boys by individuals to vandalize and steal property, highlighting that such actions are contrary to the state’s cultural and traditional values.
The protests, named ’10 Days of Rage,’ commenced on August 1 and have seen significant participation across various cities. However, these demonstrations have been disrupted by hoodlums in states such as Kano, Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, and Yobe, leading some states to impose 24-hour curfews to restore order.
In contrast, heavy security presence in Benue and Kogi States has led to a reduced turnout for the protests, with tragic reports of deaths causing further concern. Participation on the second day of the protests has notably decreased compared to the first day, according to reports.
