“No Judge Withdrew from Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial” – Federal High Court
The Federal High Court of Nigeria has firmly dismissed claims that any of its judges, including Chief Judge John Tsoho, have withdrawn from the ongoing trial of Biafra separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu, who faces terrorism-related charges. In a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja by the Chief Registrar, Malam Sulaiman Amida Hassan, the court labelled the report as “false, fictitious, and grossly mischievous,” warning the public against being misled.
The court also refuted assertions that Justice Tsoho had declared Kanu’s arrest and detention illegal. It clarified that the Chief Judge merely reassigned the case from Justice Binta Nyako to another judge, in accordance with judicial procedure. The statement emphasized that no such comments regarding the legality of Kanu’s detention were made by the Chief Judge.
Describing the publication as damaging and intended to mislead the public, the court urged Nigerians to rely only on verified information from official court channels. It reiterated its commitment to justice and due process while cautioning against the spread of misinformation that could erode public confidence in the judiciary.
