NNPC Raises Petrol Prices in Lagos, Abuja
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has adjusted petrol prices, setting the cost at N835 per litre in Lagos and N839 per litre in Abuja.
The increase represents a N50 rise in Lagos from N785 per litre and a N24 rise in Abuja from N815 per litre. The price change was observed at retail outlets in both cities on Wednesday.
This adjustment follows a recent price hike by the Dangote refinery, which raised the ex-gantry price of its petrol to N799 per litre. MRS retail outlets now sell the product at N839 per litre, up from N739 per litre.
Saidu Mohammed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), noted that ongoing competition in the market is helping stabilize energy costs. He said the removal of petrol subsidies has allowed market forces to operate more efficiently, supporting both supply and affordability.
“Nigerians are gradually accessing more affordable energy as supply improves,” Mohammed said, emphasizing that competition, rather than subsidies, will ensure consistent availability of petrol and gas across the country.
