Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Aloy Ejimakor Reportedly Collapses in Kuje Prison After Bail Denial

Aloy Ejimakor, the special counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly collapsed while in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja. Reports indicate that Ejimakor fell ill on Friday, October 25, 2025, just a day after a magistrate reportedly refused to sign his bail bond.

Sources close to the situation said Ejimakor regained consciousness after the incident but was unable to sit upright or stand. He is currently receiving medical attention from nurses at the Kuje Prison clinic, with concerns growing over his deteriorating condition. It is understood that plans are being considered to transfer him to a hospital for further treatment.

Ejimakor was arrested on Monday along with 12 others, including Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja. The group was reportedly teargassed, beaten, and detained overnight at the notorious SARS facility known as Abattoir before being moved to the State CID unit.

The following day, the detainees were taken to the Kuje Magistrate Court without their lawyer. They were remanded by Senior Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id, who allegedly had an arrangement with the police to keep them in custody. On Friday, human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore was also arraigned alongside Ejimakor and others.

Though the magistrate later granted them bail, he allegedly refused to sign the necessary documents for their release, leaving the detainees in custody.

As of the time of this report, Ejimakor remains under medical supervision at the Kuje Correctional Centre, with sources describing his health condition as increasingly critical.
